Museums & Galleries

The young city of Wolfsburg has plenty of cultural highlights to offer. This includes a large number of museums and galleries. Paintings, sculptures, photography and more: the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg delights visitors with top-class contemporary and avant-garde art. Significant exhibitions of works can be seen here - some as German premieres. Young art as well as documentary and large-scale art awaits guests at Wolfsburg Castle. With the city museum, the municipal gallery, the art association and the institute of the renowned photographer Heinrich Heidersberger, a cultural centre worth seeing has grown up here.

Castles

Castles and palaces are silent witnesses to a bygone age. They tell exciting stories of the past and offer a haven of tranquillity and an antidote to the hustle and bustle of modern city life. These include Wolfsburg Castle, the namesake and landmark of the young city of Wolfsburg, with its beautifully landscaped park, the 16th-century Fallersleben Castle and the moated Neuhaus Castle.

Historical Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg is one of Germany’s youngest cities. Founded in 1938 as the “City of the KdF Car at Fallersleben”, it was finally named Wolfsburg in 1945 after the castle by the River Aller. However, the districts of Wolfsburg that were incorporated later are quite a bit older and some of them date back centuries.
